.Drishyam is one of the most successful and acclaimed thriller franchises in Indian cinema. The first film, released in 2013, was a Malayalam blockbuster that was remade in several languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. The second film, released in 2021, was a direct sequel that continued the story of George Kutty (Mohanlal) and his family, who had covered up a murder six years ago. The film was also a hit, both on OTT and in theatres, and received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.
Now, fans are eagerly waiting for the third film, which has been confirmed by the makers. Here’s everything you need to know about Drishyam 3.
Drishyam 3 will be the third part of the Drishyam series, revolving around the story of George Kutty and his family. The film will explore the aftermath of the events of Drishyam 2, where George Kutty had managed to outsmart the police once again and protect his family from being exposed. However, he had also left behind some clues that could potentially jeopardize his future.
According to director Jeethu Joseph, who helmed both the Malayalam films, he already has a climax ready for Drishyam 3. He said in an interview, “I already have a climax ready for the third film.
However, he also clarified that Drishyam 3 will not be made anytime soon, as he wants to give some gap between the films. He said, “Drishyam 2 happened six years after Drishyam. So Drishyam 3 will not happen soon. It will take time.
The cast of Drishyam 3 will most likely feature the same actors who played the roles of George Kutty and his family in the previous films. This includes Mohanlal as George Kutty, Meena as Rani (his wife), Ansiba as Anju (his elder daughter) and Esther Anil as Anu (his younger daughter). These actors have reprised their roles in both the Malayalam films and have received praise for their performances.
It is not clear yet if any new characters will be introduced in Drishyam 3 or if any of the supporting actors from the previous films will return. Some of the notable actors who played important roles in Drishyam 2 were Asha Sarath as Geetha Prabhakar (the mother of the deceased boy), Siddique as Prabhakar (her husband), Murali Gopy as Thomas Bastin (the new IG), Sai Kumar as Vinayachandran (the former IG) and Ganesh Kumar as Philip Mathew (the SI).
The release date of Drishyam 3 has not been announced yet by the makers. However, some reports suggest that the film will be released soon, possibly by the end of 2023 or early 2024. Producer Antony Perumbavoor, who bankrolled both the Malayalam films under his banner Aashirvad Cinemas, confirmed Drishyam 3 last year itself.2
Interestingly, there are also rumours that Drishyam 3 will be released simultaneously in Malayalam and Hindi languages on the same day. This is because of the huge success of both the versions of Drishyam 2, which were released on different platforms and dates.
The Hindi version of Drishyam 2 was directed by Abhishek Pathak, who had also directed the Hindi remake of Drishyam in 2015. The film starred Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar (the Hindi counterpart of George Kutty), Tabu as Nandini Salgaonkar (Rani), Shriya Saran as Anju Salgaonkar (Anju) and Ishita Dutta as Anu Salgaonkar (Anu). The film also featured Kamlesh Sawant as Gaitonde (the ruthless cop), Rajat Kapoor as Pramod Sinha (Prabhakar) and Karan Kapadia as Sameer Deshmukh (the deceased boy).
Drishyam 3 is one of the most anticipated films in Indian cinema, as it will conclude the thrilling saga of George Kutty and his family. The film will have high expectations from the fans, who have loved the first two films for their gripping storyline, brilliant performances and unexpected twists. Drishyam 3 will also be a challenge for the makers, who will have to come up with a convincing and satisfying ending for the franchise. We hope that Drishyam 3 will live up to the hype and deliver a memorable finale.
